Every Summer we take a family trip to Puerto Peñasco, aka Rocky Point. The beach town is located just South of the Arizona border in the state of Sonora, MX. In addition to carts of street tacos, you’ll find carts of these delicious Sonoran hot dogs. For the most part, these carts setup at night and are definitely a favorite for kids and adults.These hot dogs are wrapped in bacon then grilled till the bacon gets crispy and the hot dogs are warmed through. You also want to make sure you have really soft buns for Sonoran hot dogs. I found these buns at my local Mexican Market. If you can find fresh baked buns, that’s even better. The hot dogs can be rolled ahead of time and helps the bacon adhere better to the link. Then you can grill them when your ready to serve. The toppings can also be prepped ahead of time, making it easier to enjoy your cookout.After a night out, which in our case is 10 pm, the hubs and I were still hungry. We had been hearing about this popular Mexican hot dog place in Phoenix and gave it try. Well we instantly became fans of the Carne Asada Dogo, a Sonoran hot dog topped with carne asada and guacamole. I knew I had to recreate it home and it tasted just as good, if not better!
