Pad Kra Pao Neu- Thai Basil Beef

A Simple Stir-fry of just beef and Thai Basil, but bursting with so much flavor and spice.  Always serve it with a crispy fried egg for an authentic Thai meal.

  • 1 lb Ground Beef or Beef Diced into small pieces (I diced my own beef)
  • 2-4 Garlic Cloves
  • 1-4 Thai Chili's Depends how spicy your want it.
  • 2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce Reserve 1 tbsp for marinade
  • 2 Tbsp Golden Mountain Reserve 1 tbsp for marinade
  • Large handful of Thai Basil or Holy Basil leaves
  • 1 Fried Egg per serving


  1. Marinate Ground Beef with Oyster Sauce and Golden Mountain Soy sauce, set aside and prep remaining ingredients.
  2. Pound Thai chili's and garlic in a mortar. If you don't have one, a food processor will do, or you can finely chop them.
  3. Wash Basil and remove from stems.
  4. Heat a wok over medium-high heat and add Oil. Saute chili's and garlic for about 10 seconds, then add Ground beef mixture and cook until almost done.
  5. Add remaining oyster sauce and soy sauce, stir well, then turn off the heat and add Thai Basil. If the sauce needs more juice you can add a little water.  Taste and adjust seasoning.

  6. For each serving top with a crispy egg that's slightly runny and steamed rice.

Recipe Notes

I've started eliminating soy from my diet, and the YouTube video will show making the dish with coconut aminos and a No soy Soy sauce. These are great alternative with very similar tastes as the original recipe.
